漫话南通The Story of Nantong第十四期作品Comic illustrations (VolumeXIV)人文荟萃Gathering of Talent院士群体Academicians两院院士是中国科学院院士和中国工程院院士的统称，代表了中国科学技术、工程技术的最高水平。

新中国建立后，南通已涌现52位两院院士，其中中科院院士32人、工程院院士20人The Two Academies refers to the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), which are home to talent mastering most advanced scientific and engineering technologies.

Since 1949 when the People’s Republic of China was founded, 52 academicians from Nantong have joined the Two Academies, including 32 CAS members and 20 CAE members.

这其中，有的是基础研究顶级大师，如数学家杨乐、李大潜；有的在关键核心技术领域勇执牛耳，如材料科学家王曦、生物物理学家庄小威；有的在国民经济主战场突破卡脖子技术，如地图学与地理信息系统学家周成虎、土木工程材料专家刘加平、地质学家孙友宏；有的面向国防需要仗剑天涯，如通信与信息系统专家陆建华、精细化工专家吴慰祖、导弹发射与运用技术专家黄先祥；还有面向生命健康大医精诚，如医学组织工程学与神经再生专家顾晓松。

Some of the academicians are top scientists in fundamental research, such as mathematicians Yang Le and Li Daqian;

some have made incredible contributions in key core technologies, such as materials scientist Wang Xi and biophysicist Zhuang Xiaowei;

some have made breakthrough results in key technologies in the fields that drive national economic growth, such as Zhou Chenghu who specializes in geographic information systems and cartography, Liu Jiaping who specializes in civil engineering materials, and geologist Sun Youhong;

some have been contributing to the development of national defense, such as communication and information system expert Liu Jianhua, fine chemical engineer Wu Weizu, and Huang Xianxiang, an expert in missile launch and application technology;

others have devoted themselves to life sciences and health, such as Gu Xiaosong who specializes in medical tissue engineering and neural regeneration.

体坛健儿Athletes南通是体育之乡，有着“世界冠军摇篮”的美誉改革开放以来，先后走出29位世界冠军、夺得世界大赛金牌120枚，创地级市之最29人中，奥运会冠军7人、世界冠军14人、残奥会冠军4人、残疾人世界冠军3人、围棋世界冠军1人。

Nantong is the home of sports and is known as the “cradle of world champions”. Since China’s reform and opening-up started, there have been 29 world champions in Nantong.

They won a total of 120 gold medals in world competitions, thus making Nantong rank first in terms of the number of gold medals obtained among prefecture-level Chinese cities.

Of the 29 athletes, 7 are Olympic champions, 14 are world champions, 4 are Paralympic champions, 3 are world champions with disabilities, and 1 is a world champion in Go.

从1992年至2016年，连续七届奥运会“届届夺金牌、届届出新人”，林莉、葛菲、李菊、黄旭、陈玘、陈若琳、仲满先后夺得13枚奥运金牌其中，2008年8月12日北京奥运会上，南通籍健儿“一日三金”，8月12日被定为“南通体育日”。

From 1992 to 2016, Nantong athletes won gold medals in seven consecutive Olympic Games and saw fresh talent in each game.

Athletes including Lin Li, Ge Fei, Li Ju, Huang Xu, Chen Qi, Chen Ruolin, and Zhong Man won 13 Olympic gold medals.

On August 12, 2008, Nantong athletes won three gold medals within a single day at the Beijing Olympic Games.

Since then, August 12 has been designated as the Nantong Sports Day.文艺大家Writers and Artists江海大地文坛大师名家百花争艳，在文学、影视、舞台、美术等不同的文化天地里绽放出江海特色和中国气派。

Nantong is the hometown of numerous artists who are prominent in literature, film, performing arts, and painting.

In their artistic works, they blended Nantong’s distinctive style perfectly with the Chinese culture.

在文学领域，南通有著名翻译家、新月派诗人卞之琳的 “明月照窗”，又有卢新华、夏坚勇、陆天明、范小青、黄蓓佳等文学大家的各领风骚In the field of literature, Bian Zhilin, an eminent translator and poet of the Crescent School from Nantong, once wrote a famous line of poetry: “The bright moon adorns your window, while you adorn another’s dream.” 。

Moreover, famous literati including Lu Xinhua, Xia Jianyong, Lu Tianming, Fan Xiaoqing, and Huang Beijia also created incredible works.

在电影领域，南通不仅有人民艺术家赵丹大师的丰碑永铸，又有近百位南通电影人创造的“南通与中国电影”壮丽奇观Nantong saw the rise of Zhao Dan, a people’s artist, in the golden age of Chinese cinema. 。

Besides, nearly 100 people in the film industry from the city all made significant contributions throughout the different stages of the Chinese cinema.

在美术领域，南通不仅有绘画大师赵无极、王个簃、范曾、袁运甫、袁运生的艺通古今、学贯中西，又有“中国美术南通现象”的万紫千红、风姿绰约The city is also the hometown of masters of painting such as Zao Wou-Ki, Wang Geyi, Fan Zeng, Yuan Yunfu, and Yuan Yansheng, whose paintings blend ancient and modern styles and Western and Chinese techniques.。

In addition, a myriad of other famous painters from this city created numerous magnificent artworks, thus creating the “Nantong phenomenon” in the history of Chinese art.
