Susie: Hi, Coco, welcome you to the company. I hope you will enjoy your new job and be happy here.
Coco: Thanks. Susie. I’m sure I will have a good time working here. I look forward to all the new challenges and opportunities and also making new friends.。
Susie: Good. As I told you in the interview that we have a pretty relaxed culture here in our company, but there are still some formal rules. First, let me fill you in on some informal dos and don’ts.。
Susie: We don’t need you to punch in and out here, but we hope every employee arrives on time and doesn’t leave early without asking for permission.。
Coco: I see. When you have to punch a clock you feel that you are watched.。
Susie: And sure we don’t mind a normal number of personal phone calls, but we would like everyone not to have too many.。
Susie: And if you need to make personal long-distance call, please tell the accounting department so they can bill you later.。
Coco: Ok. Are there any subjects that are taboo to talk about?。
Susie: If there is one, salary is. It can sometimes cause trouble and interoffice rivalries and therefore hurts morale.。
Coco: I see what you mean. It’s been a problem in almost every company I’ve worked for.。
Susie: Also, because there is a fine line between small talk and gossip, it’s a good idea not to talk about other people’s private lives.。
Coco: Especially when people are not there to defend themselves.。
Susie: I agree. Speaking of private life, interoffice romance is not a good idea, either, even though it’s not officially frowned upon.。
Coco: That sounds reasonable. I’ll do my best.
(1)fill someone in on something Eg: Our manager has filled everyone in on the new proposal in yesterday’s meeting.。
Eg: In our company, one of the informal dos and don’ts is that you should silence your cell phone in-office hours.
Eg: Nowadays, few companies have punching in and out systems.。
Eg: The morale of the company is sinking lower every day after the news broke out.
Eg: There is a fine line between love and hate.
Eg: Speaking of angels, and you will hear their wings.
Eg: Smoking is frowned upon in a lot of companies.
